" ... My goal is to be the first female Kiwi athlete to compete in the 10km Marathon Swimming event at the Olympics! ..."

The LA28 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony is set for July 14, 2028, with the Games running through July 30, 2028.

“The LA28 Games will be unlike any other, showcasing the best of Southern California’s exceptional stadiums and world-class culture to athletes and fans alike. This milestone makes the Games real for every athlete actively training for their LA28 dream and the fans who follow the journey,” said five-time Olympic medalist and LA28 Chief Athlete Officer Janet Evans.

The LA28 Games will be Los Angeles’ third time hosting the Olympic Games (previously 1984, 1932).

Having first appeared at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, this is the sixth time that Marathon Swimming has been on the programme.

It's the standard 10km distance and should take around 2 hours to complete.  Men and Women swim on the same course, albeit in separate races.

10km open water racing is a real test of endurance and tactical nouse - so often, even after having swum for 2 hours, the race ends with a handful of swimmers finishing within split seconds of each other!

I've represented NZ at the World Champs in open water but it's the Olympics that are my Everest and pinnacle event (I actually also competed in the Short Course Pool World Champs in the NZ 4 x 200m Women's Freestyle team in Melbourne, setting a new NZ record)!
